EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time 

REPORTS TO Senior Director of Resource Development  

LOCATION: Hybrid (2-3 days in office) 

SALARY: $66,950/annually

For over 30 years, the Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) has proudly served immigrant, refugee, and marginalized communities across New York. Community is at the heart of AAFSC's work; we help families navigate government benefits, learn English, prepare for the citizenship exam, secure affordable housing, and access mental health counseling. We're also here to strengthen family bonds through parenting workshops and help young people succeed in school with academic support, social activities, and a safe space to share their experiences. JOB SUMMARY:  

AAFSC provides direct services to underserved communities, including migrant and refugee communities in NYC, awarding the Communications and Development Manager the opportunity to amplify our clients' experiences to a variety of audiences, including partner organizations, elected officials, funders, and media/press. Through a range of creative communications tools including email newsletters, social media, website, video, and more, we give voice and shape to important issues in the community that require resources to address effectively. Some topics include mental health, domestic and gender-based violence, food insecurity, housing, civic engagement/advocacy, and most recently the increase of migrants in NYC.  

  

In addition to being an excellent communicator, a successful person in this role will demonstrate that they are an effective problem solver, creative thinker, and trusted partner to senior leadership in a mission-driven organization. The Communications and Development Manager will help lead internal organizational culture-building communications and represent a willingness to build and maintain positive relationships with staff across a range of programs and teamsA commitment to immigrant, refugee, and low-income communities is essential for this role. 

  

  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  

Communications (60%)

  • In partnership with the Senior Director of Resource Development, establish and systematically execute a strategy for internal and external communications. 
  • Collaborate with Program staff and Resource Development team to effectively share the AAFSC story with our target audiences. 
  • Develop content for and manage communications calendar.  
  • Oversee engagement on all AAFSC digital platforms.  
  • Manage internal communications 
  • Manage relationships with external communications consultants. 
  • Help meet our advocacy goals through campaign involvement, coalition engagement, and partnership building efforts.  
  • Manage the process of creating flyers and other communications materials.  

  

Development (40%)

  • Develop and manage creative opportunities (events, campaigns, solicitations, annual appeal process, etc.) to drive donor engagement.
  • Support the resource development team with prospect identification and research.
  • Support in development, planning, management, implementation, and follow up for all Resource Development fundraising and cultivation activities.
  • Develop and continually update events calendar. 

  

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing and executing a communications and social media strategy for a mission-driven organization.
  • Strong public speaking and written communications skills.
  • Experience with WordPress, graphic design, and content creation platforms like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and CapCut.
  • Passion for learning, problem-solving, and creative thinking. 
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, follow-up, and administrative skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with immigrant, refugee and low-income communities, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Arabic preferred.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to attend events, or meetings.
  • Job contingent on pre-employment background check and fingerprint clearance.
  • U.S. Work Authorization is required.
